3!

I ran three miles this evening! I'm not going to tell you how long it took me (yeah, that is definitely a pride thing), but I just wanted to see if I could "go the distance" (hmm Cake anyone?). Slowly but surely, I'll increase my distance and my time...

I added the Frazier family blog to my links. They are my friends who moved to India last month. Looks like they are adjusting well. God is good!

OK, here it is...The Distance by Cake. All the he's, him's, and his's have been changed for your enjoyment. Congrats...that's 3 miles further than i care to run.

Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time.
The green light flashes, the flags go up.
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
Their prowess is potent and secretly stearn.
As they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
The fans get up and they get out of town.
The arena is empty except for one WOMAN,
Still driving and striving as fast as SHE can.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But SHE'S driving and striving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom SHE still burns.

SHE'S going the distance.
SHE'S going for speed.
She's all alone
In her time of need.
Because SHE'S racing and pacing and plotting the course,
SHE'S fighting and biting and riding on HER horse,
SHE'Sgoing the distance.

No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine,
SHE'S haunted by something SHE cannot define.
Bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse,
Assail HER, impale HER with monster-truck force.
In HER mind, SHE'S still driving, still making the grade.
She's hoping in time that her memories will fade.
Cause SHE'S racing and pacing and plotting the course,
SHE'S fighting and biting and riding on HER horse.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But SHE'S striving and driving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom SHE still burns.

Cause SHE'S going the distance.
SHE'S going for speed.
She's all alone
In her time of need.
Because SHE'S racing and pacing and plotting the course,
SHE'S fighting and biting and riding on HER horse.
SHE'S racing and pacing and plotting the course,
SHE'S fighting and biting and riding on HER horse.
SHE'S going the distance.
SHE'S going for speed.
SHE'S going the distance.

Ha! 1) Todd's a dork. But more importantly - congrats! I know that's a big accomplishment... Way to go! Next stop, half marathons. Just wait. I swore I was stopping at a 10k...

Congrats! Anyone who runs marathons or 1/2 marathons or any kind of distance should be applauded for their determination and focus. After about 10 min of running I'd be whimping out and hitching a ride on a bike or somethin'. Not to mention, I'd be distracted easily by something in the path...oooh look, something shiny...fun!
